Taiwan’s scrap imports jump in first 7 months

Taiwan’s import volume of scrap reached a record high of 7 million tons during the first 7 months, an increase of 41.12 percent from 4.16 million tons during the same period of last year.The imports of scrap from America hit 2.037 million tons, accounting for 48.9 percent in total.Besides, Taiwan’s scrap import is expected to hit 7.135 million tons in 2008.
Taiwan’s crude steel production output rose by 12.1 percent to 13.56 million tons from January to July.
