Nippon Steel sets price hike for plate

Nippon Steel sets price hike for plate

Japan's Nippon Steel is seeking a 10 percent rise in steel plate prices from Japanese shipbuilders to cover soaring raw materials costs. The new price of ¥110,000/ton would take effect October 1 under contracts with domestic shipbuilders and machinery makers.Nippon Steel needs to raise prices to offset a tripling of costs, especially the coking coal and iron ore.

The increased price would narrow the difference with Korean shipyards.
