Panama freighter in danger of sinking in Vietnam coastal
On the Sunday morning, Oct 18, part of the Panama ship has gone down under the water surface. The hope to rescue the ship has gone. A Vietnamese tanker is taking oil off the sinking ship.
The Panama-flag New Oriental was carrying 11,500 tons of iron ore from Thailand to China when it got a double trouble of bad weather and engine down.
Consequently, it ran ground near the Tuy An district, Phu Yen province of Vietnam. The bottom of the ship suffered a large hole as it collided to rocks.
Until Saturday, all rescuing efforts have been focusing to removing oil and cargo, as little hope to keep the ship from sinking.
Vietnam’s Prime Minister on Saturday urgently request the salvage forces to do their best to present oil pollution. Aboard the ship are about 500 tons of fuel oil, light oil, and diesel.
