China require 896m tonnes of iron ore in 2009

Macquarie Research forecasted that China steel production will increase by 3% to 424m tonnes in 2009, it will require 896m t of iron ore and 448m ton of coke to produce. The research company added China is likely to produce around 100m tonnes of domestic iron ore and the remains will offset by iron ore imports.


Macquarie also estimated 55% of iron ore import to China will come from Australia, 25% from Brazil and 20% from India.
